This year, 17 cutting-edge healthcare products and groundbreaking startup companies were showcased at the Premier’s annual Innovation Celebration.
Honoring industry-leading healthcare advancements and supplier commitment to innovation, the Innovation Celebration featured next-generation healthcare products to support critical medical needs, including diabetes retinal screening, wound care management, stroke prevention and detection of bladder cancer. In addition, a new segment of the event was devoted to honoring entrepreneurial companies that are designing innovative strategies to accelerate change in the healthcare industry.
Medtronic – Micra™ Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS)

CarePICS – CarePICS
CarePICS™ is a compliant, population health management smart-device solution focused on wound care utilizing “Simple Telehealth”. PICS is an acronym for: Photo, Invite, Chart and Store.
A clinician using CarePICS™ takes a picture, begins a virtual visit/consult and enables sharing with others in user designed care groups. Accurate wound measurements are easily acquired. Visit data may be sent to patient’s EMR. Imagery and data may be viewed real-time or later. At the end of each virtual visit all imagery is deleted from users device. CarePICS™ also enables secure texting and VoIP within or outside of virtual visits depending on need.

Instrumentation Laboratory (Werfen USA, LLC) – HemosIL®HIT-Ab(PF4-H)
HemosIL® HIT-Ab(PF4-H)is the first, fully automated, on-demand assay for Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia (HIT) on a Hemostasis testing system. HemosIL HIT-Ab(PF4-H) detects antibodies associated with HIT. HIT is a severe immunologic adverse reaction to a Heparin complex that paradoxically causes blood clots to form, leading to venous and/or arterial thrombosis, and can be fatal. Diagnosis of HIT is key to positive patient outcomes and may prompt initiation of alternative anticoagulants. Unlike existing manual processes, HemosIL HIT-Ab(PF4-H) is a liquid, ready-to-use immunoassay that delivers results in minutes—on-demand, 24/7—allowing clinicians to make timely, well-informed therapeutic decisions, essential in critical scenarios.
Siemens Healthineers – DirectDensity on the SOMATOM Confidence RT Pro
In radiation therapy planning, precision is critical to high-quality patient care. Yet in most RT practices today, regardless of size or type of disease, patients are scanned at a standard kV. While this allows for a standardized workflow for treatment planning, it can limit your ability to personalize scans, and ultimately, obtain the most precise images. The new software feature, DirectDensity1, enables users to acquire images at any kV without impacting treatment planning efficiency2—thus equipping RT professionals with the freedom to personalize scans for each individual case.

HU Value relative electron density conversion for the standard reconstruction was based on a two-linear-equations approach with individual calibration for each tube voltage. For DirectDensity™ images, a single tube-voltage-independent linear conversion was used.

Introducing the HELIOS System, the only instrument to automate IFA HEp-2 slide processing and reading on one platform. The HELIOS is FDA cleared to identify 7 HEp-2 patterns and includes an on-board IFA library to assist with pattern interpretation. The system provides full sample traceability to reduce the risk of transcription errors and can connect bi-directionally to send and receive data to the LIS or through AESKU.LAB middleware. The system is designed to simplify autoimmune screening, streamline laboratory workflow, reduce hands-on time, and eliminate the need for a darkroom.

MediBookr is an online marketplace for healthcare shopping that helps both employers and employees (patients) save money on healthcare costs. We bring large groups of employees (patients) to healthcare providers, who can list their profiles, services, estimated rates (both estimated insurance and cash rates) on MediBookr to be searched by employees (patients). Employees/patients can easily search and find providers by zip codes, view transparent pricing, ratings, appointment times (or request appointment times), location, and book with the best provider in a few quick clicks. Patients can also rate providers. Providers improve their operations’ efficiency by using MediBookr’s yield management software.
Abbott/St Jude Medical – AMPLATZER™ PFO Occluder
Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and disability. The AMPLATZER PFO Occluder is the first and only medical device indicated for transcatheter closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) to reduce the risk of recurrent ischemic stroke in patients who have had a cryptogenic stroke. The RESPECT study demonstrated superiority of closure over medical management. The AMPLATZER PFO Occluder is a self-expandable, double-disc device made from a Nitinol wire mesh making it recapturable and repositionable to facilitate accurate placement. Stryker’s TruRize clinical chair was designed to help promote early patient mobility, while giving the caregiver the assurance they need to safely mobilize their patients. The powered-pivoting design guides the movement of TruRize into a number of positions that help promote patient comfort, and includes a stand-assist position to aid in early patient mobility. It’s only a chair by definition, TruRize is the next step forward in patient mobility.
KARL STORZ Endoscopy – America, Inc. – Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview (BLCC)
The KARL STORZ BLCC system enhances detection and treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Using the BLCC system, a photosensitive marker (Cysview) is introduced into the bladder, absorbed and converted into a pigment which is then deposited into cancerous tissue. Under blue light excitation, this pigment emits red fluorescence while normal tissue appears dark blue thereby helping to clearly identify tumorous tissue. BLCC is the only FDA-approved technology that:
- Is clinically proven to detect more Ta/T1 bladder cancer lesions vs. white-light cystoscopy alone

Olympus – Contained Tissue Extraction System
The Olympus Contained Tissue Extraction (CTE) System is made up of the PneumoLiner,™ a first-of-its-kind tissue containment device approved under De Novo application, and the next generation laparoscopic PK® Morcellator cleared via 510(k) application to provide certain patients with a laparoscopic surgery option to avoid open hysterectomy and myomectomy. Surgeons can operate with the confidence that comes with a closed containment device that prevents the escape of cells during power morcellation.
ReavillMED, LLC – ReavillMED Magnificent 7 With Quick Draw
The ReavillMED Magnificent 7 with Quick Draw quickly converts a placed peripheral IV into a PICC line in minutes with an IV flush. The device is capable of infusing 7 incompatible medications simultaneously or drawing blood from its Quick Draw side port without having to stop the infusion. The ReavillMED Magnificent 7 costs less than a PICC line and obsoletes the need for multiple multi-lumen CVCs, PICCs, PIVs and Blood Draw catheters. This simple device accomplishes all IV access needs and is ReavillMED’s third Innovation Breakthrough Recognition Award.
Carestream Health, Inc. – CARESTREAM OnSight 3D Extremity System
CARESTREAM OnSight 3D Extremity System uses cone beam CT (CBCT) technology to capture high-quality, low-dose 3D weight-bearing exams. Carestream’s CBCT scanner is a non-invasive tool to evaluate a host of orthopaedic conditions, such as arthritis, meniscus loss and instability that affect the biomechanical behavior of feet, ankles and other joints.
